Broncos hire Joseph as Kubiak replacement

Vance Joseph will take over from Gary Kubiak as the Denver Broncos head coach.

The Denver Broncos have appointed Vance Joseph as their new head coach.

Broncos general manager John Elway confirmed the appointment on Wednesday, with Joseph – who had previously served as Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator – reportedly signing a four-year deal.

Joseph met with the Broncos on Tuesday and returned to their facility on Wednesday. He did have an interview scheduled with the San Diego Chargers later in the day, but cancelled it as negotiations in Denver strengthened.

The 44-year-old caught the Broncos' eye when he interviewed for their head coaching vacancy back in 2015.

Elway reportedly came away impressed from that interview, although ultimately went with Gary Kubiak, who stepped aside at the end of the regular season citing health concerns.

Denver went 9-7 this season and missed the playoffs, failing to defend the Super Bowl title Kubiak won in his first season in charge.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were reportedly the only team with a head coaching vacancy not to reach out to Joseph.
