Broncos hire Vance Joseph as coach

Dolphins defensive coordinator Vance Joseph will take over Gary Kubiak's old position in Denver.

Vance Joseph met with the Broncos on Tuesday and returned to Denver's facility Wednesday. There and then, he was given an offer to become the team's next head coach.

Joseph, who served as Miami's offensive coordinator in 2016, accepted the offer.

"He brings a leadership quality that you really love about him," said Miami coach Adam Gase, via the Broncos' release. "He has such a great personality and such a strong personality -- that alpha-type personality where he demands a lot from players and they give him everything he has."

Joseph had been contacted by every team with a coaching vacancy except the Jaguars, who took the interim tag off of Doug Marrone. The Chargers had spoken with Joseph earlier Wednesday, according to ESPN.

Joseph has risen through the coaching ranks in recent years. Before his Dolphins gig, he was a defensive backs coach for the 49ers from 2005-10, DB coach for the Texans from 2011-13 and DB coach for the Bengals from 2014-15.

Although interest Joseph him has increased this offseason, he also caught the Broncos' eye in 2015, when he interviewed for their vacancy then. GM John Elway reportedly came away impressed from that interview but ultimately went with Gary Kubiak.
