Wozniacki feeling confident

Wozniacki feeling confident

World number one Caroline Wozniacki is confident she has the game to beat defending champion Kim Clijsters at the Australian Open.

Wozniacki set up a quarter-final showdown with the Belgian after easing past Serb Jelena Jankovic 6-0 7-5 in Melbourne on Sunday.

The Dane has struggled against Clijsters in the past, but said she believes her best tennis is good enough to beat the four-time Grand Slam winner.

"I don't think I have to play better (than I did on Sunday)," Wozniacki said. "I think I just need to play my game and play the same way as I did today. If I do, Kim really needs to play well to beat me."

"For me, it's important to think about myself and I believe I'm a great player. So if I lose to someone who just played better than me that day, it's just take my hat off and say, 'Well done', and I'll be back next time and try to do better."

"Kim is a great player. She has won a lot. She's done a lot through her career. I know it's her last Australian Open, so I'm sure she will give everything. Today she had a really tough match against Li Na, and I thought you she was out."

"But she showed her fighter heart and showed she can come back from any score. No, it's going to be a tough one. I'm excited about it and I'm looking forward to it."

Clijsters saved four match points in the second set tie-breaker against Li before eventually claiming an epic three set victory, made all the more remarkable after she suffered an ankle injury early in Sunday's match.

But Wozniacki did not expect Clijsters' fitness to be an issue come Tuesday.

"To be honest, I will just be focusing on myself," she said. "She still has two days to rest, or one day, and I don't know when we will be playing the next day."

"But, you know, I'm sure that I just have to play my game and focus on myself."

After racing through the first set against Jankovic, Wozniacki squandered a double break in the second before eventually steadying to claim the iwn.

"I was really happy about the way I played, especially in the first set and a half," she said. "I mean, I have to say she started to play very well, as well. She had nothing to lose, so she could just go for it."

"But, you know, I knew she was a fighter and it wasn't going to be easy. I'm just happy to be here as the winner of the match. I felt like I played some really good tennis out there today."
