Ferrer cruises through

Top seed David Ferrer dropped just one game on his way into the second round at the Copa Claro in Buenos Aires on Tuesday.

The Spaniard raced through his encounter with Argentina's Andres Molteni, winning 6-1 6-0 in just 50 minutes.

Ferrer was brilliant on his first serve, winning 91 percent of points, while Molteni won just seven points on his serve for the entire match.

Nicolas Almagro – seeded second at the event – did things much tougher, with a tie-breaker eventually separating him and Italian Potito Starace.

Almagro, who is also Spanish, was a 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-4) winner, with his impressive serve to thank for his progression.

In other first-round results, Frenchman Gilles Simon defeated Portugal's Rui Machado 6-3 7-5, Argentine Juan Monaco led Italian Filippo Volandri 6-1 3-1 before the latter retired and Spain's Fernando Verdasco eased past France's Eric Prodon 6-4 6-1.

Argentine David Nalbandian also won in straight sets, proving too good for American Wayne Odesnik 6-2 6-3, Russian Igor Andreev beat Slovenian Blaz Kavcic 6-2 6-2 and France's Benoit Paire fought back from a set down to beat Spain's Javier Marti 2-6 7-6 (7-0) 6-2.

Spain's Albert Ramos also came from behind to win, defeating Argentine Juan Ignacio Chela 4-6 6-3 6-4 but the latter's countryman, Federico Delbonis, had more luck as he defeated Portugal's Frederico Gil 6-2 6-2.
