Young gun Bernard Tomic and local Peter Luczak have given Australia a commanding 2-0 lead over Taiwan in the Asia-Oceania Zone Group I tie at Melbourne Park on Friday.

Held up for 90 minutes by rain at Margaret Court Arena, Tomic made an extremely impressive debut by thrashing Tsung-Hua Yang in straight sets.

In a rematch of the 2008 Australian Open Boys' Singles title decider, Tomic conceded just four games in making it three wins from as many outings against Yang, capping a dream first match in Australian colours with a 6-2 6-1 6-1 victory.

Australia's second-youngest debutant in Davis Cup history, and youngest since Viv McGrath way back in 1933, Tomic got his nation off to the best possible start in the absence of stalwart Lleyton Hewitt.

"I've had a lot of tough matches against him in juniors and today I was lucky I played really well," Tomic said post-match.

"There's nothing better than to play for your country especially for it's always been my dream and to do it with the team like that behind you and stuff it's unbelievable for me."

And later in the day Luczak put Australia in the perfect position to wrap the tie in the doubles on Saturday, when big-serving Carsten Ball and doubles specialist Paul Hanley will go up against Yang and Chu-Huan Yi.

Luczak made a disappointing start when he dropped the first set against Yi but he responded superbly to run away with a 4-6 6-3 6-2 6-3 victory.

"He started off really well, he surprised me actually, he served really well and he volleyed well, he didn't do too much wrong," Luczak said.

"He's a tough guy to get rhythm against because we weren't playing too many rallies."

"He was going for his shots and it just seemed like everything was going in. I probably started off a little bit nervous as well and luckily I worked my way into the match."
