Three medals for NZ

It was a golden day for Australia but New Zealand also had cause for celebration at the ISAF World Sailing Championships in Perth.

Home sailors Nathan Outteridge and Iain Jensen claimed the men's 49er skiffs gold on the last day of the 16-day event, before Tom Slingsby wrapped up his win in the men's Laser.

Four gold medals were decided on Sunday, with Spain's Tara Pacheco and Berta Betanzos claiming the gold medal in the women's 470 while Dutchman Dorian van Rijsselberghe upset defending world champion Piotr Myszka to take out the men's windsurfing.

US pair Erik Storck and Trevor Moore led the field for much of the 49er race but were forced out on the penultimate leg due to a broken rudder. That allowed New Zealand pair Peter Burling and Blair Tuke to claim silver on a countback ahead of Danish brothers Emil and Simon Toft Nielsen.

World No.1 Slingsby went into the final day of the Laser race with a 14-point lead and never looked back as he secured his fourth world championship title.

Britain's Nick Thompson took the silver and New Zealand's Andrew Murdoch the bronze.

Pacheco and Betanzos edged Great Britain's Saskia Clark and Hannah Mills to the gold medal in the women's 470, with New Zealand's Jo Aleh and Olivia Powrie taking the bronze.

Van Rijsselberghe claimed the Netherlands' second gold of the championships in the windsurfing after Poland's Myska had gone into the medal race with a one-point lead.

Myska took the silver ahead of Israel's Nimrod Hashich, who claimed the bronze on a countback.
