Italian club Mascalzone Latino is to be the Challenger of Record for the 34th America's Cup.
Within 24 hours of the Golden Gate Yacht Club's entry, BMW Oracle lifting the America's Cup from Alinghi's grasp, the Italians had been confirmed in the role.
Mascalzone Latino competed in both the 2003 and 2007 America's Cups.
It has joined with the defender to start a dialogue with the wider America's Cup community, including existing and prospective teams to ensure the next America's Cup is built on the foundations of the competition's past as well as on a shared vision for its future.
BMW Oracle chief executive Russell Coutts said: "There will be independent management of all competitive aspects of the regatta.
"I think that's important for all of the competitors to know the rules will be fair and equal for all," he said.
