Luckless Toulon winger Vincent Clerc is facing up to five months on the sidelines after undergoing another Achilles operation on Monday.

Clerc, who has 67 France caps, suffered a complete rupture to his left Achilles during Sunday's 30-6 Top 14 drubbing at Clermont Auvergne.

He only recently made his comeback for the three-time European champions after recovering from surgery on his right Achilles in September.

The 35-year-old now faces a battle to return to full fitness and may not play again this season after Toulon confirmed he will be out for four to five months.

France head coach Guy Noves spoke to his son-in-law Clerc on the phone and later revealed to RMC: "I told him there are more serious things in life. He'll bounce back, give him time."

Clerc won the last of his 67 caps for Les Bleus against Scotland almost four years ago.
