Wallabies lose Mitchell

Wallabies lose Mitchell

09/08/2010 03:38:26 AM

In-form Wallabies winger Drew Mitchell has been ruled out of Saturday's Bledisloe Cup blockbuster against the All Blacks with a hamstring injury.

Mitchell suffered the minor tear whilst scoring his crucial try in the latter stages of Sunday's historic 41-39 win over the Springboks in Bloemfontein.

While the 26-year-old's injury is not considered serious, a Wallabies spokesman confirmed selectors won't risk further injury to the left winger this weekend.

Injury-plagued Reds winger Peter Hynes is likely to come into the side for his first Test of the season after overcoming a nagging knee complaint that has plagued him since the end of the Super 14 season.

Western Force veteran Cameron Shepherd will also come into consideration after overcoming a hamstring injury that prevented him from travelling to South Africa, while forgotten Waratahs winger Lachie Turner is an outside chance.

Brumbies young-gun Pat McCabe and Force rising star Nick Cummins are also available for selection after being added to the squad for the tour of South Africa, but both are unlikely to be included in the 22-man squad to be named on Thursday.
