Experienced three-quarter Scott Staniforth has signed a one-year extension to remain at the Western Force.

The former Australia back had been linked with a move to the Waratahs, who had already swooped to sign Force team-mate Ryan Cross.

But Staniforth, who returned to the Super 14 side from Japan last season to help it cope with a mounting injury toll, has turned down the chance to join his old side and opted to commit his future to the Perth-based outfit.

The 32-year-old said: "There were a couple of other offers around and it was tempting with family ties over in the east but we wouldn't be staying if we didn't enjoy it, as a family we're really happy with the decision and we really enjoy the Perth lifestyle."

And Staniforth, who has 106 Super Rugby appearances to his name, is also keen to pass on his wealth of experience to the side's younger players.

He said: "I guess I've been around for a while now and part of the fun of playing the game is being able to assist in the development of the younger guys coming through. If I can contribute to their rugby growth in some small part it means a lot to me."

"You get to know the tricks of the trade the more years you play and I hope to be able to pass them on."
