New Zealand struck back in the IRB Sevens to retain their title in the South African leg played at George on Saturday (SA time).

But it wasn't until the last seconds of a thrilling final with England that the victory was attained courtesy of a penalty goal from Tomasi Cama in the last seconds.

New Zealand beat last week's Dubai winners England 22-19.

England got out to a 14-0 lead in the final with tries to James Rodwell and Ben Gollings, both of them converted by Gollings. But the New Zealanders fought back to lead 19-14.

Firstly Declan O'Donnell capitalised on a long period of build-up at the end of the first half and then DJ Forbes and Tim Mikkelson scored, with both tries converted by Cama.

Turner scored the equaliser which was unconverted and then Bryce Heem was sin-binned before Cama got to land his penalty goal.

Earlier, New Zealand had beaten Fiji in a sudden death extra time semi-final.

Again the scores were locked at 19-19 before Jackson Ormond scored for New Zealand to claim the finals berth 26-19.

England won through to the final by beating Samoa 19-10.

And in the quarter-finals New Zealand got past Argentina 26-0.
