back up and Chris Cusiter's sniping run was halted by Cole before Brown and Monye were both injured in a nasty head-on collision.

Just a fortnight ago, Scotland winger Thom Evans was seriously injured on the field after a similar incident in Cardiff. Monye was carried off on a stretcher in a neck brace but appeared to be moving his arms.

Flood re-established England's lead as referee Jonker struggled to control the breakdown.

Three times he warned England that one more indiscretion would bring a sin-binning but when Cueto was penalised, Jonker decided not to follow through on his threat.

Parks hit the post again but Scotland swarmed on the rebound, England was caught offside and this time Parks succeeded to make it 15-15.

Flood had the chance to win it with a 50-metre penalty which fell just a foot short and then England piled on the pressure with drives from Courtney Lawes, Nick Easter and Joe Worsley.

Flood dropped back into the pocket but his dropped goal attempt was blocked.
