The Winnipeg Jets upset the Philadelphia Flyers with a 2-1 shootout win, while centre John Tavares hit a brace and provided two assists as the New York Islanders eased past the Carolina Hurricanes with a 5-2 victory.

Evgeni Malkin scored the game-tying goal with 6.6 seconds to go before the Pittsburgh Penguins extended their winning streak to eight with a 5-4 shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The New Jersey Devils moved into seventh in the Eastern Conference after a 4-3 shootout win over the New York Rangers, while the Buffalo Sabres battled past the Montreal Canadiens 3-1.
