Red Wings win again

02/11/2012 06:31:58 AM

Detroit Red Wings won their 19th consecutive home game with a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in the NHL.

But the Red Wings had to do it the hard way as the visitors held on until the shootout, with Pavel Datsyuk and Todd Bertuzzi scoring the crucial goals for the home team.

Teemu Selanne scored for the Ducks.

Detroit has now joined the 1970-71 Boston Bruins with the second-longest home winning streak in NHL history, one win behind the 1975-76 Philadelphia and the 1929-30 Boston sides who share the league record.

In Buffalo, the Sabres came from two goals down against Dallas to beat the Stars 3-2 in overtime.

Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy each scored in the third period for Buffalo, with Roy's goal coming just 39 seconds before the end of regular time.

Then left-winger Nathan Gerbe scored the decisive shootout goal to complete the comeback against the Stars.

In Colorado, the Eastern Conference's worst-performed side, Carolina Hurricanes, lost their 11th game in overtime this season.

The home side beat Carolina 4-3 when Ryan O'Reilly scored after almost five minutes of overtime.

And in San Jose, the Sharks ended a two-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over Chicago.

Benn Ferriero and Jamie McGinn scored in the third period to clinch the victory.
