WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko has reportedly offered a fight to David Haye in a bid to lure the Brit out of retirement.
Haye, 31, retired from boxing in October after losing his WBA world title to Vitali's brother Wladimir on points in Hamburg in July.
After the fight the Englishman blamed a broken toe he suffered in training for his disappointing showing.
On Monday Haye told the BBC his camp had been in discussions with the Ukrainian champion's representatives for a comeback fight, and it now appears as though Klitschko, 40, is prepared to put his belt on the line.
A management official from Klitschko's camp said on Tuesday that an offer had been presented to Haye, with a March date most likely for the event.
"I haven't seen a contract but there's definitely talks going on," Haye said on Monday.
"I said I'd want to fight Vitali, the big brother of Wladimir, who beat me in my last fight. They're the only guys I'd consider coming out of retirement for."
"Whether it happens or not I don't know."
Haye has been beaten just twice in 27 professional contests, with his last defeat before the Wladimir Klitschko fight coming in a 2004 bout against Carl Thompson when he was stopped in the fifth round.
Vitali's last defeat came against Lennox Lewis in 2003 when he was stopped because of a badly cut eye, leaving him with two losses in a 45-fight career.
