The Detroit Red Wings saw their seven-game winning streak broken in a shock 7-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL on Wednesday (local time).
The Western Conference-leading Red Wings slumped to the defeat as All-Star goaltender Jimmy Howard conceded four goals from his first 11 shots in the opening period.
Canadiens centre David Desharnais (two goals and an assist) was one of the four players to beat Howard in the first period, with Rene Bourque, Alexei Emelin - with his first NHL goal - and Tomas Plekanec also netting.
It got worse for the Red Wings to start the second period as Max Pacioretty and Desharnais scored to make it 6-0 before the halfway mark of the contest.
Canadiens goalie Carey Price had his hopes of a shutout ended when Jiri Hudler hit a third-period brace to get the Red Wings on the scoreboard.
The Canadiens, 11th in the Eastern Conference, remain eight points adrift of the final playoff spot despite their win.
The Red Wings are three points clear atop the Western Conference heading into the All-Star break.
