Consistency will be the goal for the women's Black Sticks team ahead of the World Cup.
The team for the tournament, which starts on August 29 in Rosario in Argentina, was named on Thursday and coach Mark Hager said lessons from the recent Champions Trophy tournament would be invaluable for the side.
A tightening of the team's game and consistency were musts, he said.
"The reality is we're still a young team, that's developing. However, if we want to compete successfully at the international level we need to be in the game for all 70 minutes," he said.
Hager said the daily tournament routine had identified weaknesses, but also strengths and it showed the New Zealanders could compete with the best.
"The more exposure we get like this, the better we will be as we progress towards our long term goal of building this team," he said.
The side will be led by Kayla Sharland and includes a core of experience in Emily Naylor, Krystal Forgesson, Stacey Carr and Beth Jurgeleit.
Missing from the team which played in the Champions Trophy are Kate Mahon and Laura Douglas. Harger said he opted for players who provided flexibility in the defensive and attacking lines.
Of the players named Anna Thorpe has to be cleared of a quadricep injury.
