Australian Jack Bobridge timed his break to perfection to claim his first professional win in stage five of the Eneco Tour on Sunday.
The 21-year-old, who rides for American team Garmin-Transitions, was part of an 11-man group which broke away from the peloton 33km into the 208km stage from Roermond to Sittard in the Netherlands.
The group managed to stay ahead of the main bunch until the final kilometres, when Bobridge made his move and sped away to win by four seconds from Spain's Ruben Perez Moreno.
"I'm still in my apprenticeship phase," said Bobridge.
"I don't really know the Belgian and Dutch races so much and I've suffered a lot since the start of the race."
"I could hardly have hoped of winning here. It's the best win of the start of my career."
HTC Columbia's Tony Martin retains the overall lead, 10 seconds ahead of Dutch Rabobank rider Koos Moerenhout and one minute, 24 seconds from defending champion Edvald Boasson-Hagen.
The Eneco Tour continues on Monday with the 205.6km sixth stage from Bilzen to Heers in Belgium.
Meanwhile, Matthew Goss rounded out a good day for Australia on the bike by winning the 248.3km Grand Prix of West France.
Goss, who rides for HTC-Columbia, outsprinted American Tyler Farrar and France's Yoann Offredo to win the one-day event in Plouay in north-western France.
The 23-year-old is the second Australian to win the event after Simon Gerrans was victorious in 2009.
