Championship leader Jamie Whincup has snatched pole position for Sunday afternoon's V8 Supercar race at Sandown.
Whincup, who leads Holden rival Craig Lowndes by just 158 points in the title race, clocked the fastest time in qualifying despite driving off track twice in the 20-minute session.
Mark Winterbottom will start alongside Whincup on the front of the grid, Lee Holdsworth was third quickest while Lowndes will begin the race from fourth place.
"The session didn't start to plan, I mowed the grass, or ploughed the mud on the first lap," Whincup said.
"The car was fantastic though and they are some of the better laps I've done in a V8 Supercar."
Lowndes, who started Saturday's race from the back of the grid after a dismal qualifying run, added: "It's obviously much nicer to start on the second row than the last row."
"Today is a much different day to yesterday and of course it's going to be a lot tougher."
"All the cars will be very competitive, it's just a matter of what the tyres are going to do over the duration of the race."
Shane van Gisbergen, Will Davison, Caruso, Paul Dumbrell, Tim Slade and James Moffat rounded out the top ten.
Sunday's 65-lap race will start at 3.35pm.
