Red Bull's Mark Webber is already seeking improvement in 2012 after ending the Formula One season with victory in Brazil.
Webber has been consistently outpaced in 2011 by teammate Sebastian Vettel, who claimed his second successive world championship crown.
But the Australian finished the campaign on a high, winning ahead of his German colleague in Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos.
And the 35-year-old is now talking up his chances of mounting a more consistent challenge in 2012.
"I think I will have a stronger season than this year," Webber said.
"I started off poorly for different reasons, but we will look at all areas to get to the highest level."
"When the bar is at the highest level I don't just look at Seb. There is Jenson (Button), Fernando (Alonso), these guys are on the top pace."
"It is a good tonic for me this race. It's good to sign off the RB7 like this. We were concrete in many areas (this season) and that made it hard for the opposition."
Vettel had taken his 15th pole position from 19 races on Saturday, but gear box issues allowed Webber to overhaul him during the race.
"Seb did a great lap for pole yesterday," Webber said.
"It would have been nice to race Seb all the way through, but he had a problem."
"It is a win I will take because I had enough bad luck. It is how motorsport goes. It is an important win for me and the team to win on a high."
Vettel's technical problems meant he was forced to short-shift in second and third gear.
The demanding situation reminded Vettel of Ayrton Senna's victory at Interlagos in 1991, when the Brazilian managed to win despite suffering a similar restriction.
"I had the call to manage a gearbox problem, turn down (the) engine and short shift," he said.
"It was getting worse, so I was using higher gears everywhere and that is where the comparison (with Senna) came into my head."
