Sebastian Vettel has claimed a record 15th pole position of the season after qualifying fastest for the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The double world champion broke Nigel Mansell's mark from 1992 with his time of one minute 11.918 seconds, completing a dominant qualifying session at Interlagos.
With team-mate Mark Webber second, the all-Red Bull front row will be followed by two McLarens in Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, who were unable to trouble Vettel.
The 24-year-old German topped Q2 and was dominant in Q3, clocking 1:12.268 to go top of the timesheets before bettering that with his final effort.
"There had been quite some talk before qualifying about this particular record, but it was best not to think about it at all," Vettel said.
"So I was enjoying the moment, enjoying the laps, and I put everything into the last lap."
"It was very emotional when I crossed the line because I knew I had given it my all."
"I then had to wait quite a time to see if it was good enough or not."
"It took the master in Nigel Mansell a few races less, but in the end it's really special and different to other poles."
Button looked like he might claim second before Webber came through to edge past him on his second run.
But Vettel, who wrapped up the drivers' championship at the Japanese Grand Prix on October 9, cruised to pole and broke Mansell's 19-year record, which the Brit set in a 16-race season.
Mercedes' Nico Rosberg was sixth, splitting the Ferrari's of Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa - who were fifth and seventh respectively.
Force India's Adrian Sutil was eighth-fastest, ahead of Brazilian Renault driver Bruno Senna and Mercedes' Michael Schumacher.
