Rosberg expects results

Nico Rosberg is expecting Mercedes to finally rise to the surface in Canada on Sunday, despite team principal Ross Brawn's ongoing concerns relating to lack of pace.

Mercedes goes into Formula One's eagerly-anticipated return to Montreal - following a one-year absence - on the back of a respectable result in Turkey 10 days ago.

Although Mercedes was no match for McLaren and Red Bull, Michael Schumacher and Rosberg combined to rake in the team's best points haul of the season for a race with 22.

Rosberg, who has been on the podium twice so far this year - both times third - has high hopes for the weekend.

"The circuit is technically challenging and fun to drive with the long straight combined with short and slow corners," said Rosberg.

"Our engine will certainly be a big help on the main straight, and we will have some further upgrades for the race weekend."

"The fact the circuit characteristics are quite different from Istanbul Park makes me go there with high hopes. I think we might just put in a great result."

But there is still the gnawing issue of pace as Mercedes does not have the legs like its main rivals at Red Bull and McLaren.

"Looking back at our last race, the team and drivers performed well throughout the weekend to achieve our highest points score of the season, but we are simply not yet quick enough," said Brawn.

"We know the solution - the continuation of our hard work and application - and we will keep pushing until we are back to competing right at the front of the field."

Brawn's comments are echoed by Mercedes Motorsport boss Norbert Haug who said: "We are certainly not where we want to be yet, namely in a position to challenge for victories on a regular basis."

"However, we are dedicated and have a very good spirit to achieve our targets."

"It is difficult to predict where we could end up in Canada, but we will certainly try as hard as we can."

Like Rosberg, Schumacher is convinced his car could be ideal for the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve that sits on the Iles Notre Dame in the middle of the St Lawrence Seaway.

"This circuit is all about top speed so we have worked very hard on this," said Schumacher.

"That is especially as we know we are not right at the top in that area."

"However I am convinced we will be able to get the best out of our package."
