New name for new F1 team

Campos Meta has been renamed HRT F1 (Hispania Racing Team) following the recent internal takeover by entrepreneur Jose Ramon Carabante.

The financial struggles surrounding Campos' bid to make their debut this year prompted Carabante to oust co-founder Adrian Campos last month as owner and team principal.

With Campos out of the picture, the team has now taken on a new identity ahead of its proposed debut in the opening grand prix of the season in Bahrain next week.

The new team name recognises their Spanish roots as they will be based in Murcia, near Alicante.

New team principal Colin Kolles said: "The new team name signifies a new birth for our Formula One ambitions."

"It also highlights the incredible effort that is going on behind the scenes to ensure we make a successful debut in Bahrain on March 14."

"While we are a new team in the paddock, we will be very proud to stand alongside such legendary names as Ferrari, McLaren, Williams and Lotus as we hope to build our own reputation in the coming years."

If HRT do take its place on the grid in Sakhir, it will do so without the car having completed a single test lap.
