With the season almost over McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton reflected on the impact of new additions to Formula One.
Speaking ahead of the final event on the F1 calendar, the Brazilian Grand Prix in Interlagos, the pair spoke of the benefits of driving aids introduced this season.
Button still has some work to do in Brazil if he is to secure second in the drivers' standings with Ferrari's Fernando Alonso just 10 points behind him, but said he loved the changes and believed they had helped him a lot across the season.
"Lots of rule changes for 2011 in terms of the KERS, Kinetic Energy Recovery System, a hybrid system that gives you a boost of power which for me has been great I think it's really helped with overtaking," Button said.
"We've got the new tyres, the Pirelli tyres, which have been interesting, there is a lot of degradation and I think that's added to the spice of the racing and also DRS (Drag Reduction System) which is less drag on the rear wing, when you push your button you get less drag and hopefully overtake the car in front."
"They've all helped for great racing this year."
"If you watch every race back this year there have been some amazing overtaking manoeuvres and most races have had you on the edge of your seat."
"It's very unusual to have that in a season to have so many special races and I think they've done a good job with the regulations."
Hamilton, who lost out to team-mate Button in the standings this season, the first time he has played second fiddle to a team-mate, was a little more circumspect about the changes.
"The rule changes have been OK. You know we've had the DRS this year which has worked really well. I think it's probably enabled even more overtaking than the F-ducts did last year and I think people are enjoying it so it's a real balance," Hamilton said.
"Sometimes it's too easy to overtake, sometimes it just gives you the chance to get close enough to have a shot at overtaking but I've enjoyed it, I really have enjoyed it," he said.
A win for Button in Brazil would shore up second, a feat he admits would be very special.
"Ah you know, winning the last race of the year is always a very special thing and also Brazil. Sao Paulo is a very special track, there's a lot of history there. I personally have struggled to qualify well there in the past," Button said.
"Interlagos circuit it's quite flowing, you know it's a proper old school track, It's like Suzuka, it's like Spa, very flowing and I think that's what we love as drivers."
"You also have this uphill section before the last corner onto the straight which really helps with overtaking because you can really tow up behind a car on the hill and get the sling shot into turn one so it's a fun circuit to race on and we love the challenge of Sao Paulo because it's a certain time of year It's very tricky conditions because of the weather, It's never very consistent you never really know what you're going to get," Button said.
For Hamilton a win in Brazil would hold great sentimental value.
"Brazil is a circuit that I've never won at, and it's
