Squaring up against former teammates is never easy, but for Titans prop Matt White taking the points against Newcastle at Energy Australia Stadium on Sunday is his priority.
White said he was looking forward to meeting up with old mates Ben Cross and Dan Tolar after he missed the Titans' second match against the Knights in 2009 through suspension.
"It's always good coming up against old teammates…it will be a good tussle and they have a pretty good forward pack," the 25 year-old said.
"I'm looking forward to coming up against the boys again."
"I got to play against them in Round 1 last year, but didn't get to play them up in Newcastle because I was out suspended," White said.
"I watched the game at home, but hopefully we can get the points this year,"
Making 21 appearances for the Knights between 2005 and 2007 White found it tough to cement a first grade spot, however a move to the Gold Coast in 2009 saw the 114kg big man resurrect his career.
"Down (in Newcastle) I was in and out of first grade and played a lot of reserve games, but it's been good up here and I've cracked the first grade so I'm just trying to play consistent footy."
But after a solid debut year for the Titans, a shaky pre-season nearly de-railed White's 2010 ambitions when a mystery illness later diagnosed as vertigo kept him out of this year's opener with the Warriors.
"The doctor put it down to vertigo. I had a bit of dizziness and was a bit crook, but touch-wood I've been good," he said.
With three Titans regulars (Mark Minichiello, Greg Brid and Anthony Laffranchi) featuring in Friday night's NSW City v Country Origin selection trial, White also predicted that a big effort would come from a Titans bench keen to get game time.
"We've got a couple of boys backing up from the Country v City game so all the boys on the bench will be looking for a big impact and to cover those guys, because they'll be a bit sore after that game," he said.
Both sides are sure to offer up an intriguing contest this weekend with Gold Coast currently sitting outright second on the NRL ladder, but Newcastle's recent upset over Brisbane is sure to give Rick Stone's men a much needed confidence boost.
