Penrith has warded off Cronulla to re-sign NSW State of Origin winger Michael Gordon for a further two years.
The NRL's leading pointscorer was in the Sharks' sights but elected to stay at the foot of the mountains in a deal that will take him through until the end of the 2012 season.
"We are certainly pleased with keeping Michael at the club," Penrith CEO Mick Leary said on Monday.
"He has progressed very well since making his debut in 2006 and was deservedly rewarded with selection in the third Origin game this year."
"It's a good time to stay with the club too; we have locked away a number of key positions and Michael was another one of those integral parts to the team."
"With the group of players we have, the future of the club is looking particularly bright."
Known as 'Flash', Gordon has scored 164 points this season from eight tries and 66 goals.
His kicking accuracy sits at 80 percent.
Gordon's retention comes a week after team-mate Michael Jennings also pledged his future to the club, signing a new five-year deal.
