John Lang is looking for things to keep him occupied this weekend, Roy Asotasi hasn't done the maths while Rhys Wesser will be watching every game with his fingers crossed, praying the league gods don't conspire against the Rabbitohs once again this season.
Souths have leapfrogged Brisbane into eighth spot on the NRL ladder - and drove the final nail into Parramatta's season - with their 24-16 win over the Eels on Friday night.
Canberra will go above the Rabbitohs and push them out of the top eight again if they beat North Queensland on Saturday night, but Souths will at least go into the last round of the season with some hope of playing in the finals.
That round 26 match is against the first-placed Dragons and the Rabbitohs will need to spring an upset and hope other results this weekend and next go their way.
Asked if he will watch the games that could decide his side's fate this weekend, Lang said: "I'll do something else I think ... I don't think I'll torture myself."
"It would be great to be going down there and playing (the Dragons) for a spot in the final, but that's out of our control now."
"There's no point in doing all that (trying to work out possibilities), we're in a situation where it can be good, it can be bad ... we'll know where we stand, we'll just have to sit back and wait."
Rabbitohs skipper Roy Asotasi said it was important his team got all the possibilities and permutations out of their head and just focused on the clash with the Dragons.
"That's what we've spoken about ... we've got to win against the Dragons, that's all we can control," he said.
"I don’t even know what the stats are, where we are and what we've got to do to get in."
"Let's just beat the Dragons and see where we end up."
Rabbitohs full-back Rhys Wesser added: "We'll be watching the games and barracking for the team we need to win."
"Obviously our future is in their hands ... we'll see what happens."
"But I'll definitely be watching and crossing my fingers."
The Rabbitohs' injury curse struck again with lock Jason Clark (hamstring) and outside back Jamie Simpson (knee) both failing to finish the match and unlikely to play next weekend.
Lang does welcome back Eddy Pettybourne after the giant back-rower missed the Eels clash through suspension.
