Miss Keepsake wins Oaks

Miss Keepsake wins Oaks

Kiwi filly Miss Keepsake finished in a flurry to win the Group One Queensland Oaks at Eagle Farm on Saturday for trainer Andrew Scott, edging out the more fancied Mike Moroney-trained Marheta.

Winning trainer Scott knocked off his former training partner in Moroney in the race, with their two runners separated by a short neck.

Danaupair Starlet ran a length third for Patrick Payne, with Absolute Joy, ridden by Dwayne Dunn for Lee Freedman, running fourth.

But the story of the Oaks was favourite Dariana stayed in the barriers when the race started, leaving her out of contention at the beginning of the 2400m race.

The Bart Cummings-trained filly lifted her head over a neighbouring stall while sitting in the barriers, and was left behind when the starter pulled back the gates.
Dariana was declared a starter by the stewards after the race.
