A Shocking Win

A Shocking Win

Trainer Mark Kavanagh has put a nightmare spring behind him with his rising star Shocking prevailing in the $5.5 million Melbourne Cup, holding off international raiders Crime Scene and Mourilyan.

Kavanagh, who in the past ten days had his favourite Whobegotyou beaten in the Cox Plate, the favourite Shamoline Warrior scratched from the Victoria Derby, grabbed the biggest win of his career as Shocking unleashed a strong finish to hold off the internationals.

It was also a measure of atonement for jockey Corey Brown, who was beaten a nose in last year's race.
