Winds force halt in Qatar

Winds force halt in Qatar

Play was called off on day two of the Qatar Masters due to heavy winds on Friday with the European Tour event now reduced to 54 holes.

Gusts of up to 56 kmph wreaked havoc at the Doha Golf Club, blowing over signs and reducing visibility.

Play was called off with first-round leader Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano of Spain dropping two shots on his first five holes, and falling back to four over for the tournament.

American John Daly, who had yet to start his second round, now leads at five under.

He is a stroke ahead of a three-way tie for second, between Fernandez-Castano, Australian Jason Day (even par through six holes) and South Korean KJ Choi, who had yet to start.

World No.3 Lee Westwood of England was one over for the tournament and two over through six holes of his second round.

The defending champion, Dane Thomas Bjorn, is one under through six holes, but six-over par for the tournament.
