Karrie Webb has blown a chance of winning her fifth Australian Open, losing to World number six Yani Tseng after woeful-final round putting.
Webb's overnight lead evaporated as Tseng fired a blistering final round 7-under par 66 to win the 2010 Handa Women's Australian Open at Commonwealth Golf Club by three strokes.
Tseng collected the $90,000 first prize ahead of Britain's Laura Davies who closed with a 2-under par 71.
The 21-year-old from Taiwan, who had lurked among the leaders all week, birdied five of her final nine holes to hold off the challenge from defending champion Davies.
"Last night I told my friends I was going to play really good today...I got a good feel on the greens. This is a really tough course and you just need to be patient. If you just lose a little focus, it is really bad. I tried to be focused and patient," Tseng said.
"For the last three holes my whole body was shaking. When I stepped up to putt I felt my heart going really fast. I told myself to be relaxed. I told my caddie to be relaxed too," she said.
World number eight Webb finished with a 1-over par 74 in outright third.
"I got off to a really great start. I was feeling pretty good out there until I played a couple of scrappy holes in six and seven and really lost a lot of momentum there."
"I just did not hit it as good after that, for some reason. I did not trust myself as much as I would have liked," Webb said.
The Queenslander said a lack of trust in her putter hampered her progress.
"I did not feel as comfortable with the putter in my hand today. There was a bit more noise in my head than there has been."
Italian Giulia Sergas finished tied for fourth place with Queensland’s Katherine Hull who finished with a 1-under-par 72.
Australian Lindsey Wright closed with a 3-under par 70 to take sixth place.
American Stacy Lewis finished one stroke ahead of leading amateur Hyun-Soo Kim from Korea at 1-under in eighth place.
World number seven Anna Nordqvist finished at even-par for the championship in ninth place.
