Ryu holds slender lead

02/10/2012 09:12:48 AM

So Yeon Ryu is the one they are all chasing at the Australian Women’s Open, with the South Korean holding a one stroke lead heading into the weekend at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

Ryu shot a four-under-par 69 in her second round on Friday to be six-under, just ahead of compatriot Hee Kyung Seo.

There's four players another stroke back at four-under in a tie for third, including American pair Jessica Korda and Stacy Lewis, England's Melissa Reid and Paraguay's Julieta Granada.

Ryu started her round in scintillating fashion, sinking three birdies on the opening six holes.

She had bogeys on seven and 11 but three other birdies on the way home was enough to complete her round at the top of the leaderboard.

Seo, who started the day at two-over, struck the round of the day, a seven-under 66 to be a huge chance heading into the weekend.

Behind the group of four players in a tie for third there's a bit of a gap with four other players three shots further back at one-under.

World number one Yani Tseng, who is aiming for a hat-trick of wins at the tournament she won in 2010 and 2011, is six shots off the lead after a three-over 76.
