New Zealand have claimed a share of third place after the opening day of the Queen Sirikit Cup women's golf championship in India.
World number three ranked amateur Lydia Ko led New Zealand's charge with a two-over 74, while Cecilia Cho carded a four-over 76 to combine for a team score of 150. Emily Perry's 10-over 82 was the non-counting score for the New Zealand team. The team score of 150 was enough for a share third place with Malaysia out of 14 at the Delhi Golf Club course.
In tough conditions where only two players made sub-par rounds, world champions Korea have given themselves an early three stroke lead after a sizzling three-under 69 from Hyo Joo Kim.
Team captain Libby Steele told reports the course was extremely difficult and that every mistake mattered.
Steele also said the girls were feeling disappointed when they came off the course, and blamed poor execution of a conservative game plan on their current standing.
"We are right there in contention so if we can reduce the errors and take full advantage of opportunities then I think we will be more competitive."
They will have a chance to rectify that on Thursday 10 March when they play their second rounds.
