Lee tied for lead in US

Lee tied for lead in US

Three players are tied for the lead after the first day of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am in California.

New Zealand's Danny Lee, Korea's Charlie Wi and USA's Dustin Johnson all shot opening rounds of nine-under to top the leaderboard heading into the second day.

Lee did not drop a shot and ended the day with two eagles and five birdies.

Johnson also managed two eagles, while Wi finished with one.

But with three separate courses being used at Pebble Beach, scores are difficult to compare.

Both Lee and Johnson opened their tournament at Pebble Beach Links, while Wi was in action at the Monterrey Peninsula Country Club.

In fact, 11 of the top 14 scores were obtained at those two courses.

This includes Americans Ken Duke and Brian Harman, who both shot eight-under 64 at the Pebble Beach Links to finish the first round in a tie for fourth.

The third course, Spyglass Hill, was seemingly more difficult, with American Nick Watney the best there, shooting a six-under-par 66 to claim a tie for sixth along with American Josh Teater and Canadian Graham DeLaet.

Every player will play each of the three courses before the 54-hole cut and then the final round will be played at Pebble Beach Links.

Tiger Woods, in his first tournament on the PGA Tour this year, shot four-under at Spyglass Hill.

It was an impressive start for the 36-year-old with six birdies and two bogeys.

Woods is joined by 11 others at four-under including Fijian Vijay Singh and Australia duo Aaron Baddeley and Nathan Green.

Fellow Australians Rod Pampling (-2), Mathew Goggin (-1), Steven Bowditch (-1), Jarrod Lyle (-1), Stuart Appleby (E) and Geoff Ogilvy (E) are well in contention, while compatriots Steve Elkington (+1), Nick O'Hern (+1), Matt Jones (+1) and Gavin Coles (+4) finished the day over-par.
