Euro Tour schedule announced

12/20/2011 09:52:16 AM

The 2012 European Tour schedule was announced on Monday, featuring top headlined tournaments across five continents worldwide.

The Africa Open at the East London Golf Club from January 5 tees off 11 months of action on the 2012 European Tour, with the renamed DP World Tour Championship in Dubai closing the season in late November.

The tour's flagship event, the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, will be held from May 24 -27.

This year's tournament saw Luke Donald edge out Lee Westwood in a pulsating playoff, catapulting him to world number one and eventually helping him clinch The Race to Dubai and the 2011 European Tour Golfer of the Year award.

All eyes will also be on the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles in August - the final counting event for players who want to qualify for the Europe team for the 2012 Ryder Cup.

For the second consecutive year, three of the four majors will welcome back European champions as they attempt to defend their titles.

Charl Schwartzel (US Masters), Rory McIlroy (US Open) and Darren Clarke (British Open) are the three major winners from this year.

The tour will stretch all over the globe through Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Australasia with more tournament announcements set to be revealed in addition to the 46 counting events towards the Race to Dubai and the Ryder Cup.
