The mood among the Australians in the International camp was bittersweet following the 19-15 loss to the United States in the 2011 Presidents Cup at Royal Melbourne.
Geoff Ogilvy admitted to mixed feelings after securing a two-up victory over Bill Haas for one of six points to the Internationals from Sunday's 12 singles matches.
"It's hard to play someone like Bill because you like him so much and he's one of the nicest guys in the world," said Ogilvy.
"Really, matchplay is a lot easier when you don't like the guy you're playing, so that was hard."
Ogilvy was one of the shining lights for the Internationals finishing with three wins, a half and a loss from his five matches.
He said the Americans thoroughly deserved their overall victory which earned them their seventh Presidents Cup from the nine times the event's been staged.
"The Americans are very good players and very adaptable these days," he said.
"They have some pretty wise heads in their team and obviously they came out here with the right mentality on a couple of those really tough days."
International team-mate and compatriot Jason Day finished the competition on a downer with a five-and-three singles loss to Hunter Mahan, but feels he'll be better for the experience.
"For me, this was my first (Presidents Cup) and I know now certain things that I won't do in another couple of years," said Day.
"It's good for a change not just to think about yourself but to think about others."
"As long as I gave it 100-percent, I was happy with that."
"Obviously it was a tough day for me out there, bogeyed the first six holes or something."
Aaron Baddeley, who partnered Day in all four foursomes and four-ball matches for a win, a half and two losses, said he felt blessed to represent the Internationals in his home town.
"It was awesome just to be part of the team and I loved playing with Jason," said Baddeley, who went down four-and-three to Tiger Woods in Sunday's singles.
"I look forward to playing in more Presidents Cup teams and hopefully team up with Jason again."
"We did well together, we gelled together and it was an awesome week."
"I'm just disappointed not to win the Cup."
