German World Cup sensation Mesut Ozil has snubbed the English Premier League to join La Liga giants Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old midfielder's signature was being chased by many of the top clubs in Europe following his outstanding form for Germany at the World Cup in South Africa, all but ensuring his exit from Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
The two clubs have reportedly agreed to a 15-million-euro fee for the young playmaker, subject to Ozil passing a medical at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
A statement on Real Madrid's official website announced their latest acquisition, lauding him as a future star.
"(Mesut's) unique touch, unmatched individual technique, excellent ball control and deadly last pass make the German midfielder one of the brightest up-and-coming stars in European football," the statement said.
Ozil joins Germany team-mate Sami Khedira at the Santiago Bernabeu, along with a clutch of Europe's biggest footballers and Inter Milan's treble-winning manager, Jose Mourinho.
La Liga action gets underway on August 29, with Los Blancos travelling to Palma to take on Mallorca.
