Olympique Marseille claim first win

08/21/2010 09:03:57 PM

Olympique Marseille have won their first Ligue 1 match of the season at the third attempt after a 2-0 victory over Lorient.

OM moved to sign strikers Loic Remy and Andre-Pierre Gignac during the week to fill the void left by last season's top scorer Mamadou Niang's departure to Turkey.

But neither player opened the scoring as Argentine left-back Gabriel Heinze gave the hosts the lead after just six minutes.

Nigerian Taye Taiwo put the finishing touches to the victory with his 72nd minute goal.

Toulouse stay top of the table much to the surprise of many as they defeated newcomers Arles-Avignon 2-1.

Goals from Daniel Braaten and Etienne Didot put Toulouse in front and they held on despite a late Arles goal.

Olympique Lyon also secured their first win beating Stade Brest 1-0.

Lyon's goal came from Cameroon international Jean Makoun in the first half.

Sebastien Roudet's late goal ensured Lens would come from two goals down to draw with Monaco at home.

Ten-man Nancy shared the spoils with Nice 1-1 while Rennes played out a goalless draw with St Etienne.

EPL-The Final Day

What a day it was; Manchester City had the title, then lost it, then had it again. Bolton were safe, then just as quickly they were gone. Arsenal secured their place in next season's Champions League, while fourth-placed Tottenham must wait until Sunday morning to see whether they will join them or not.
