Gold Coast sign Djite

Gold Coast sign Djite

Gold Coast have filled the void left by Shane Smeltz's departure to Turkish Super League club Genclerbirligi SK by signing Socceroo Bruce Djite until the end of the season.

Djite, who trained with his new team-mates on Friday, joins the club after a two-year spell with the club Smeltz has just joined.

Before his time in Turkey, the 23-year-old spent two seasons with Adelaide United where he netted 11 goals in 32 appearances and won the A-League Young Player of the Year award in 2007/08.

"I played with Kristian Rees, Scott Higgins, Michael Thwaite a couple of times I've been in Qantas Socceroos camp, and Jason Culina and a couple of other boys," Djite said.

"I think for me, what's most important is to find a place then settle down as quickly as possible, and get everything set up. Once I'm settled off the field it's much easier to be settled on the field especially with coming into a new team with new team-mates."

"I can't wait to get started and to try and help the team as much as I can."

Djite is also looking forward to working with coach Miron Bleiberg playing alongside captain and Socceroos regular Jason Culina.

"I've heard a lot of positive things about Miron and if he wasn't a very good coach I wouldn't have come here because in terms of my development it's important to be guided by good coaches," he said.

"I'm really looking forward to working with him and working into his system. I'll give my best in every game, and hopefully do the job that Miron and the other boys expect of me."

"The experience of being overseas and playing against some of the players over there has been very valuable and now I hope to use what I have learned."

"Now it's a matter of getting back into the rhythm of training, gaining some match fitness and from there I can get into some good form and hopefully start scoring some goals for Gold Coast United."

"I think he can only help my game develop with his guidance and leadership. I'm sure he's going to have a lot of tips for me," he said of Culina.
