Bari edge Juventus

Bari edge Juventus

08/29/2010 10:11:35 PM

Bari made it back-to-back home victories over Serie A giants Juventus with a 1-0 win on Sunday in their season opener.

The decisive goal came in the 43rd minute, courtesy of substitute Massimo Donati pouncing on an error from the Bianconeri's defence to fire home a 20-yard left-foot stunner to please the fans at the San Nicola.

The win came in addition to last season's 3-1 drubbing of Juventus at home, and the trend continued on the league's opening weekend.

Juventus blooded summer signings Milos Krasic and Fabio Quagliarella in the league opener; two of five first-gamers playing for the club.

Alessandro Gazzi took a knock to the head early, and his substitution brought on goal-scorer Donati after 15 minutes.

Bari's Abdelkader Ghezzal and Edgar Alvarez both had fine chances to score for the hosts in the first half but were kept out by Juventus goalkeeper Marco Storari.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper had no chance, however, of saving Donati's superb strike two minutes from half-time.

Bari face a trip to Napoli for their next league game on September 12 after the international break, while Juventus take on Sampdoria at home.

In other Serie A results on Sunday, an Alexandre Pato brace helped AC Milan smash Lecce 4-0, while an 83rd-minute penalty scored by Sergio Pellissier was the difference in Chievo's 2-1 trimuph over Catania.

Fiorentina and Napoli both finished with 10 men on the park and also shared the points in their clash, finishing 1-1.

Juan Manuel Vargas copped a straight red in the 68th minute, but Napoli's numerical advantage on the pitch was nullified when Manuele Blasi received his second yellow card after 74 minutes.

Palermo and Cagliari finished their encounter scoreless, while Parma and Sampdoria both ran out 2-0 winners over Brescia and Lazio respectively.
