AVB: Torres will fire soon

01/31/2012 06:20:03 PM

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has insisted Fernando Torres' steadily improving form will soon lead to goals.

The Spaniard left Liverpool in the January transfer window last season to join the Blues in a record breaking 50-million-pound move, but he has since scored just five goals in 43 appearances for the London club.

But now, ahead of the game against Swansea City, the Portuguese boss is hoping that his forward returns to his prime.

"I think we are seeing a player growing in terms of form," Villas-Boas told reporters.

"Eventually we expect goals from it, and we hope those goals will come back."

The last time that the 27-year-old found the net in the Premier League was back in September, when the west London club were playing Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Villas-Boas was asked if he could have foreseen the World Cup winning forward's goal drought, and he said: "That is the reality, but he has been helping the team."

"Fernando has equally one of the most assist totals for other players in the club so he is producing for the others as well."

"I think he is confident, to be fair. For the kind of effort he is doing, eventually it will be repaid."

Swansea have been credited for their attractive style of play since returning to the Premier League this season, and Villas-Boas said he was expecting an entertaining clash.

"It is the least typical cultural game in terms of the British tradition," Villas-Boas said.

"At the moment games between Chelsea, Swansea or Arsenal represents a very different philosophy from the normal standard. Whether that is good or bad is up to other guys to decide, based on results as well, but this should be a very entertaining game."

"January has been a good month for us apart from the Norwich draw and if we get out of Swansea with three points then it has been a fantastic month."

EPL-The Final Day

What a day it was; Manchester City had the title, then lost it, then had it again. Bolton were safe, then just as quickly they were gone. Arsenal secured their place in next season's Champions League, while fourth-placed Tottenham must wait until Sunday morning to see whether they will join them or not.
