50th goal delights Kuyt

Kuyt delighted with milestone

02/01/2012 09:15:54 PM

Dirk Kuyt has revealed a sense of relief after scoring his 50th English Premier League goal for Liverpool against Wolves on Tuesday.

Kuyt got himself on the scoresheet during the 3-0 win at Molineux just four days after he scored the winner against Manchester United in the FA Cup fourth round.

The strike against Wolves was Kuyt's first of the Premier League season, his previous effort having arrived against Fulham on May 9.

The Dutchman arrived at Anfield from Feyenoord for nine million pounds in 2006, and although he came as a striker he has spent most of his time with the club playing on the wing due to his high work-rate.

But despite the satisfaction of notching his half-century of league goals, Kuyt said the team performance counted more than any personal landmarks.

"Finally I got the goal and it has took me a while," Kuyt told the club's official website.

"It was great to score the winner against United and it was a proud moment to get my 50th league goal for Liverpool."

"It's something that makes me really proud as not many Dutch people have come over here and done that, so it's special."

"The most important thing though was the team won and we deserved it."

"This was a really important game for us coming on the back of the Carling Cup semi-final and the win over Manchester United, and we are really happy with the victory."

"Mentally it was a difficult game, especially after the two great results against the Manchester clubs but this was a great performance and that showed with three different people scoring."

"It was great to score another goal and hopefully I can keep going and get a lot more now."

"We passed the ball really well, we kept creating chances and we were patient. It was a great result for us and we deserved to win it."

EPL-The Final Day

What a day it was; Manchester City had the title, then lost it, then had it again. Bolton were safe, then just as quickly they were gone. Arsenal secured their place in next season's Champions League, while fourth-placed Tottenham must wait until Sunday morning to see whether they will join them or not.
