Johan Elmander netted a brace to help Bolton record their first victory of the season and inflict more misery on West Ham's new manager Avram Grant.
Owen Coyle will be delighted with his side's unbeaten start as Bolton managed to record their seventh consecutive win over West Ham.
In stark contrast the pressure is already mounting on Grant who has seen his side concede six goals in their opening two games which leaves them rooted at the foot of the table.
Pablo Barrera and Kieron Dyer both came close for the home side, before West Ham were awarded a penalty on 32 minutes.
Gretar Steinsson brought down Carlton Cole in the box. The West Ham striker picked himself up to take the spot kick but fired a weak effort which was easily saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Cole was desperate to make amends for his miss but was denied by Jaaskelainen once again on 35 minutes when his shot was superbly saved by the Bolton keeper diving low to his left.
You could sense it was not going to be West Ham's day when Kieron Dyer saw his shot tipped onto the post by Jaaskelainen on 43 minutes.
Bolton made the home side pay when they opened the scoring on 48 minutes. Elmander flicked the ball on and Matthew Upson headed the ball past his own keeper.
The England defender clashed with Kevin Davies and was forced to leave the field minutes later.
Bolton doubled their lead on 68 minutes. Davies played a superb ball over the top of the West Ham defence. Lee Chung-Yong delivered a cross straight into the path of Elmander who made no mistake directing a close-range header past Green into the corner of the net.
West Ham finally got themselves back into the game on 79 minutes. Paul Robinson brought down Scott Parker inside the box and Mark Noble made no mistake this time striking the penalty past Jaaskelainen.
But any hopes of a West Ham comeback were quickly dented when Elmander scored his second of the game on 84 minutes.
Ilunga failed to clear the ball and Elmander struck his shot past Green to seal an impressive victory for Bolton.
