Wigan Athletic hit back from two early-season thrashings to record a 1-0 win at White Hart Lane over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Spurs were complacent against lower opposition in all too familiar fashion and Hugo Rodellega's strike proved the difference between the two sides.
Wigan were on the front foot from the outset, showing just how keen they were to get their first Premier League points of the season.
Roberto Martinez's side had a chance to go ahead as early as the eighth minute as Antolin Alcaraz rattled the crossbar with a fierce shot.
Spurs' first real attempt came in the 23rd minute as Jermaine Defoe controlled a low cross from Benoit Assou-Ekotto and swung a right-foot shot which was clipped wide by Ali Al-Habsi.
Defoe caused more problems for the Wigan defence shortly before half-time, turning Alcaraz and holding off Emerson Boyce, before poking his effort wide of the far post.
Niko Kranjcar and Roman Pavlyuchenko were introduced after the interval in an attempt to cure Spurs' sluggishness and they spent almost the entire period in Wigan's final-third. However, as Tottenham pressed, Wigan attacked with vigour on the break.
Just before scoring Colombian Rodellega flashed in two crosses, Alcaraz missing a simple chance from a yard out and substitute Iordi Gomez volleying over.
But Rodellega punished Tottenham's smugness on 80 minutes, when he brought down a deep cross-field ball at the corner of the area and volleyed low underneath Carlo Cudicini.
Spurs then committed to a more attacking style of play, but wasted chance after chance.
Tom Huddlestone went close almost immediately with a left-footed effort just wide of the far post, Defoe hit the side-netting, while Kranjar and Dawson forced important saves from Al-Habsi.
But it was too little too late for Tottenham as Wigan ran out deserved winners.
