Phoenix snare away win

Wellington Phoenix scored the quickest goal of the A-League season and then closed Perth Glory down to record their first away in win in 2010/11.
The fans were still making it to their seats when Phoenix and All Whites midfielder Brown took advantage of a poor defensive clearance from Andy Todd to volley home in just the 42nd second.
In an open beginning to the contest, Perth's Michael Baird had the chance to equalise just two minutes later but fluffed his lines from a one-on-one with Phoenix stopper Mark Paston.
It was probably Perth's best chance of the match as they lost their eighth game from the last nine starts nine starts to stay in eighth on the Hyundai A-League table, as Wellington maintain seventh despite the win.
Coming off losing their impressive record at home last Wednesday night through a 4-1 loss to Brisbane, the Phoenix were out to make a statement, and make it they did as Brown fired home for his second goal in two games.
Baird's miss followed soon after and it proved the Glory's best chance as Wellington bossed the contest.
A minute after the half-time break, another defensive error from Todd allowed Paul Ifill a sight at goal. But when he cracked his shot straight into Tando Velaphi the chance went begging as Wellington shut up shop and hung on to the lead for the rest of the game.
Making matters worse for Perth ahead of their midweek trip to face Adelaide, they will be without skipper Jacob Burns, who was dismissed 10 minutes from time for a second yellow card after clattering into Daniel.
