Manchester United outclassed West Ham 3-0 at Old Trafford Saturday to leave the Hammers still waiting for their first point of the season.
Wayne Rooney ended a run of 13 matches for club and country without a goal by netting a first-half penalty before Nani and Dimitar Berbatov sealed the comfortable victory with goals after the break.
The game started at a slow pace but sparked into life in the 24th minute when Berbatov found Portuguese flyer Nani, who let fly with a ferocious shot that West Ham goalkeeper Robert Green tipped onto the crossbar.
Moments later, Nani was again the danger as he found himself space in the area after a knock down from Rooney but blazed his shot high and wide.
The visitors were sparked into life and responded with a chance of their own through a mazy run and shot from Kieron Dyer which rustled the side netting.
United broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute after Ryan Giggs darted into the box only to be clumsily brought down by Jonathan Spector.
Referee Mark Clattenburg pointed to the spot and Rooney confidently stepped up to plant the ball to Green's left and end the worst goal drought of his career.
After the goal the hosts started to show their dominance, and Green was forced into an athletic diving save to keep out Darren Fletcher's 25-yard curler.
As half-time approached, Nani stormed through on goal but chipped wastefully into the stands.
Nani made up for it four minutes later, calmly slotting home after being put through by Rooney.
Dyer had a wonderful chance to drag Avram Grant's side back into the game but missed the target.
And his miss was punished the 68th minute when Berbatov exquisitely volleyed United's third to put the result beyond doubt.
