Dumped national T20 skipper Cameron White has vowed to pull himself out of the chronic form slump that cost him Australian selection.
White paid the price for a summer of poor performances last week when he was not only stripped of the Twenty20 captaincy but also left out of the 14-man squad that will take on India this week in matches at ANZ Stadium and the MCG.
But the 28-year-old Victorian captain plans to use the rest of the domestic season to end his run drought - starting with a Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide this week.
"It's probably a fair way away at the moment but I am confident it (international career) is not over," White said on Tuesday.
"It's the same old line but I have to basically go back score and take wickets. I have faith in my ability."
"For me it starts in Adelaide on Thursday."
White's woes started in the Cricket World Cup early last year and have dogged him throughout this summer.
His top score in all forms of cricket since the World Cup is a meagre 36 and he managed just 55 runs from eight knocks at just 7.86 for the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
"My Big Bash wasn't great. It was awful to be honest. It's nobody else's fault. My performances weren't good enough," White said.
"At the end of the day that's what matters I guess. If you aren't good enough to get into the team you aren't good enough to be captain."
White's surprise successor George Bailey, a successful state captain with Tasmania, will make his T20 international debut on Wednesday against India at ANZ Stadium.
Bailey's highest score in the shortest format is 60 and the 29-year-old has made only one T20 half-century in the past three seasons.
But a rational White thinks his Melbourne Stars team-mate's anointment has merit.
"I think he has copped some unfair criticism before he's even started. Having dealt with George over the past few months I know he is a good captain. Give the bloke a go I reckon," he said.
Victoria, fourth on the table, meet South Australia in a match they must win to stay in Shield contention.
All-rounder White is hoping a promotion in the batting order and contributing more overs with the ball will reignite his career.
The leg spinner snared only his second career five-wicket haul before Christmas and knows he must bowl in every match for selectors to take him seriously.
"There's no doubt that's one of the keys (to getting back in the Australian team)," White said.
"It has been ever since I was out of the one-day team. And that was some of the feedback the previous selectors gave and (skipper) Michael (Clarke) himself as well."
The Bushrangers' depth will be tested against the Redbacks with four players - Aaron Finch, David Hussey, Clint McKay and Matthew Wade - in Australia's T20 squad.
White said he would likely bat at No.4 in the absence Hussey.
The Vics are also without Test pacemen Peter Siddle (rested) and James Pattinson (foot injury).
