Daryl Tuffey has joined the walking wounded in the New Zealand cricket camp and will miss today's third Chappell-Hadlee Trophy game against Australia in Hamilton.
Tuffey has suffered a calf strain and will be on the sideline along with all-rounder James Franklin who has a hamstring strain and has also been ruled out.
Michael Mason will play in his 26th ODI after getting the call-up at the weekend as back-up for Franklin last week for the second match in Auckland. Mason has taken 30 wickets in his appearances to date.
Batsman Ross Taylor will have a fitness test before the game before a decision is made on whether he will play.
If he is unable to play Shanan Stewart will make his international debut.
Seddon Park, the venue for Tuesday's game was sold out on the morning of the match.
Northern Districts chief executive David Cooper said the sell-out was good news.
"The ground is like an amphitheatre when it is full. It's like playing in a cauldron. The atmosphere will be electric," he said.
