Chris Tremlett has been ruled out of England's two-Test series with Sri Lanka due to a bulging disc in his back.
The 30-year-old lined up for England in their 10-wicket loss to Pakistan in the first Test of their current series but was forced out of the second with the injury.
Further scans revealed the injury and Tremlett will most likely return to action in the latter part of April, ruling him out of the Sri Lanka tour which starts on March 26.
"May require a little clean up. Hopefully back playing mid to end of April," Tremlett said.
Tremlett had already missed five months on the sidelines with a similar injury before returning for the start of the Pakistan series.
Spinner Monty Panesar has deputised since and took seven wickets in the second Test, although his haul could not stop England falling to a second consecutive defeat.
Tremlett joins fellow paceman Tim Bresnan on the sidelines, with the Yorkshire bowler continuing his recovery from an injured elbow.
