Marsh on the brink

Marsh on the brink

01/23/2012 03:41:59 AM

Sri Lanka coach Geoff Marsh will reportedly be replaced by Graham Ford after just five months in charge of the national set-up.

Marsh, who took over in September 2011, has been tipped to make way soon after the one-day international series against South Africa, which ended in a 4-1 defeat on Sunday.

Sri Lanka Cricket are undergoing a major shake-up, with the selection panel replaced last week and a change in captain also believed to be a possibility.

Former South Africa coach Ford this week resigned from his role as head coach of Durban team the Dolphins, citing a desire to coach at international level.

If Ford does take up the role, he will be Sri Lanka's fifth coach in less than a year since their ICC World Cup final defeat to India in April 2011.

Trevor Bayliss stepped down following the tournament, to be replaced initially by assistant Stuart Law.

Rumesh Ratnayake stepped in for a home series against Australia in August and September, before Marsh was appointed on a two-year contract soon after that.

The period of coaching turmoil has not suited Sri Lanka, who have lost every Test and ODI series since the World Cup.

Former captain Mahela Jayawardene has been tipped to regain the captaincy from Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Reports have also emerged claiming contracted members of the national squad have been unpaid since March last year, after Sri Lanka Cricket overran their budget for World Cup stadium construction.
